Starting on Friday, July 24, the three-day conference aims to raise awareness among Mauritanian people about the issue of Palestine and Quds (Jerusalem), Palestine.info website reported.
Muhammad Ghulam Walad Hajj al-Sheikh, secretary of Mauritania’s National Committee for Protecting Quds that has organized the conference, said the event highlights the connection between Mauritanians and the cause of Palestine.
He said the African country’s nation will continue to support the Palestinian cause.
According to al-Sheikh, several workshops and expert forums will be held during the conference to discuss the issue of Palestine.
The National Committee for Protecting Quds was founded in 1999 after Mauritania decided to normalize ties with the Zionist regime.
As a result of the committee’s efforts and following the Zionist regime’s aggression on Gaza, Mauritania’s relations were frozen with the occupying regime in January 2009. In February 2009, Mauritania recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv. By March 2010, all diplomatic relations between Nouakchott and Tel Aviv officially come to an end.
Mauritania is a country in West Africa. Almost all of the country’s population is Muslim.
