TEHRAN (IQNA) – A large number of people attended a memorial service for the Iranian Quranic figures who lost their lives in a recent crush of Hajj pilgrims in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

It was held by the Iranian Quranic community at Tehran’s Imam Sadeq (AS) Mosque on Tuesday night.

The families of the tragedy’s victims as well as Quranic figures and officials were among those attending the commemoration ceremony.

A number of Qaris, including Masoud Sayyah Gorji, who himself was in Mina when the tragic crush occurred, recited verses from the Holy Quran in the ceremony.

Addressing the event, Hojat-ol-Islam Abutorabifard, vice-speaker of Iran’s parliament, referred to the Mina crush as an incident that brought pain to the hearts of all Muslims, adding that the Islamic world will not forget it.

He also urged that Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization should continue efforts to identify the bodies of all of the Iranian pilgrims killed in the incident.

On September 24, some 4700 Hajj pilgrims, including at least 465 Iranians, died in the crush in Mina, near Makkah, when performing the Hajj rituals.

Among them were five members of the Iranian Quran delegation to Hajj: Hassan Danesh, Amin Bavi, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, Foad Mash’ali and Saeed Saeedizadeh.
