Quran Competition of Persian Gulf Cooperation Council Kicks Off in Qatar

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 27th edition of “Quran and Hadith” competition for representatives of the member states of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council began today, October 25, in Doha, Qatar.


According to Al-Arab newspaper, the competition has been organized by the secretariat of the Quran and Hadith Competitions for the Youth of the council’s member states.





Marriott Hotel of Doha is hosting the competition under the supervision of Qatar’s Ministry of Sport and The Youth.





The Quranic event is held in one of the member states each year with the participation of 3 representatives from each of the states. This year Oman has no representative in the competition.





Abdul Rahman Al-Hajari, director of the Youth Section of Qatar’s Ministry of Sport and The Youth, said that each of the member states has also a representative in the judging board of the competition.





Hamd Al-Kuwari, head of the Qatari representatives, said that the competition aims to encourage the youth of the region to memorize the Divine verses and act upon the Quranic teachings and Nabawi tradition.





The participants, selected from among top Quran activists of national competitions, compete in three different age groups of 21 to 25, 16 to 20 and 11 to 16.





Memorization of the verse 24 of Surah Nisaa to the verse 81 of Surah Maida, memorization of Surah Israa to Surah Taha and memorization of the verse 47 of Surah Fussilat to the verse 30 of Surah Al-Dhariyat are the categories of the competition for the three groups of the participants, respectively.
