Libyan Quran Teacher Survives Assassination Attempt

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran teacher in the Libyan city of Benghazi survived an assassination attempt.

Sheikh Abdul Karim al-Ghariani was attacked by a number of armed men on Monday, the Sadi al-Balad news website reported.

He was rushed to hospital and is in intensive care unit after undergoing an operation.

Security forces have arrested one of the attackers who is now under investigation.

Al-Ghariani teaches the Quran in Suhaib Rumi Mosque in Benghazi.

Libya is in chaos four years after dictator Muammar Gaddafi was toppled and later killed in October 2011.

Since then, armed groups and regional factions have been fighting for power in the oil-rich north African country.
