First Modern Quran Memorization Schools Launched in Egypt

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first series of modern Maktab-Khane (traditional school) for Quran memorization were opened in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt.


According to Almasryalyoum website, Muhammad Mukhtar Guma, Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf, was present in a ceremony held to inaugurate the schools.

The minister also participated in national ceremonies held in the region and ordered that an Islamic-cultural center be established in Hurghada city of the governorate.

He also took part in the gathering of a large number of the people to open some of the projects to be implemented in Safaga city of the Red Sea.

Islam is the dominant religion in Egypt. There are around 80 million Muslims living in the North African country, comprising 95 percent of the total population.
