Karbala Int’l Book Fair Opens

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 12th edition of Karbala international book fair was opened in the city by the Astans (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS).

According to Al-Kafeel website, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held on May 5.

It is part of the programs of "Rabi’-ul-Shahadah” international festival in Iraq.

The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalayi, custodian of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, Seyyed Muhammad Al-Ashiqar, head of the board of trustees for Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine and a number of officials in charge of different sections of the holy shrines as well as representatives of Iraqi and foreign publishers.

Seyyed Muyassar al-Hakim, director of this edition of the exhibition and member of the organizing committee of the festival said that publishers from 14 countries including Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Syria, Morocco, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Britain, Spain, Canada, and Italy have attended the book fair.

He said that the exhibition is hosting 180 publishers while 300 ones had announced their willingness to participate at the international event.

Representatives of different holy sites of Iraq and the Shia and Sunni Awqaf Departments of the country are also attending the exhibition, he noted.

Al-Hakim went on to say that the annual exhibition, organized on the occasion of festivals of the lunar month of Sha’ban, will run for 10 days.
