
The contest is held for Libyan nationals living in Egypt, according to al-Wasat website.
Its motto this year is "The Book of God Brings us Together”.
Sheikh Ikram al-Jirari, head of the organizing committee, said that Monday’s contest is for women and that men’s competition will be held on Tuesday.
He said the event has three categories, namely, memorization of the entire Quran along with interpretation of Juz (part) 28, memorization of the last 15 Juzes along with interpretation of Juz 29, and memorization of the last Surahs of the Quran from Surah Yasin along with interpretation of Juz 30.
He noted that the first category is held for those under 25 years of age, adding that winners of the competition will be awarded cash prizes of 500 to 2500 Egyptian pounds.
Quranic activities and programs significantly increase in the Muslim world during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, it began on Tuesday, June 7.
During Ramadan, Muslims all over the world fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.
They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
