Hussamuddin said World #QuranHour is an initiative to strengthen the faith of the ummah (Muslims) in the teachings of Quran while becoming a platform of solidarity, showing appreciation towards the Quran at a higher level.
"To date, 117 countries and hundreds of associations as well as Muslim non-governmental organisations have participated in this program, and participation from all 57 member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is also expected," he said at a media conference after discussions with media agency representatives on the hosting of World #QuranHour.
Hussamuddin added that media agencies nationwide had also agreed to cooperate efforts in doing coverage and making announcements towards ensuring the success of the program.
In support, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Azman Ujang said Bernama would assist in promoting World #QuranHour to attract as much participation as possible locally and abroad.
He said Bernama will utilise all of its media platforms such as Bernama Radio, Bernama News Channel, its social media sites and its contacts with other agencies.
Azman also commended the effort taken by Hussamuddin and the unity and close collaboration of media from diverse channels, and expressed his hope that the activity will be carried out in a positive momentum.
Co-host of #MalaysiaNgaji, Marhaini Yusoff, who is also the CEO of Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas (Heritage Foundation Ummah Ikhlas), said the inaugural edition of World #QuranHour will involve several 'hotspot' areas for group recitation of the Quran.
Marhaini said, the main location of the programme will be the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, International Islamic University Malaysia, and will also be held at certain locations in the states.
"The chosen date, September 11, according to the Islamic calendar falls on Zulhijjah 9, during the Haj pilgrimage season when pilgrims would primarily be at the Arafah Desert in Makkah, and as such Malaysian pilgrims will unite with those from other countries joining in this campaign there," she explained.
