Moroccan Woman Sentenced to 4 Years for Desecrating Quran

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The board of Casablanca’s Ain Sebaa’s court has sentenced a 40-year-old woman to four years in prison and a fine of MAD 500 for desecrating copies of the holy Quran.

The incident, which happened in a women’s prayer room in the "Lkhzama” mosque, located in the Casablanca neighborhood of Lissasfa last November, has sparked outrage among Lissasfa’s population, who protested against the woman’s act.

The mosque’s imam caught the woman desecrating the Quran, and the women’s prayer room in complete disarray.

During the police investigation, the woman confessed that she desecrated copies of holy Quran.

Before arresting the suspect, the police found desecrated copies of the Quran in five mosques around the neighborhood. They subsequently stepped up their efforts to arrest the perpetrator of this profane act, according to Morocco’s Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
