Translator of Quran into Nawaiti Language Dies

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The translator of the Holy Quran into Nawaiti language, a local language in southern India, passed away Saturday.

 

Mohtesham Usman died at his residence in Bhatkal, a port town in the Uttara Kannada District of the South Indian state of Karnataka, at the age of 76.

The funeral prayers are expected to take place on Saturday afternoon at Khalifa Jamia Masjid Bhatkal, the website bhatkallys.com reported.

Nawaiti is the language spoken by the Nawayath, an Indian Muslim community concentrated mostly in the state of Karnataka, and in southern Maharashtra and some parts of Tamil Nadu. Some live in Madhya Pradesh and many migrated to Pakistan after independence in 1947 and predominantly settled in Karachi.
