TEHRAN (IQNA) – Customs officers at Cairo’s international airport foiled an attempt to smuggle an Ottoman-era Holy Quran out of Egypt.

According to al-Tahrir, a Nigerian passenger was attempting to take the rare manuscript out of Egypt.
Using X-ray scanning, customs officers found something suspicious in the passenger’s suitcase and after searching it found the copy.
The manuscript dates back to the Ottoman era, Egyptian officials said.
The passenger’s destination was Johannesburg, South Africa.
