In Sanaa, the capital, thousands of Muslims flooded Al Sabeen Square, close to the Al Sha'ab Mosque, to celebrate the occasion.
A special committee had been set up to coordinate and organize the celebrations.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Mecca, Arabia, in the year 570 A.D. Sunni Muslims around the world celebrate his birth each year on the 12th day of Rabi' al-Awwal (which falls on Sunday, November 10, this year), the third month of the Islamic calendar while Shia Muslims mark the occasion on the 17th day of the month (November 15).
