TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran recitation session was held in the city of Dehradun, the capital of India’s Uttarakhand state, to commemorate martyred Iranian commander General Qassem Soleimani.

The students of the city’s Nourbakhshi seminary organized the memorial.

Uttarakhand is  a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha'abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

Rallies have been held in several cities in India in condemnation of the assassination.

This week, Muslims in India’s Mumbai trampled on US flags and pictures of Trump after Friday prayers.
