TEHRAN (IQNA) – Pakistan’s prominent religious scholars in a joint edict called for immediate postponement of all religious congregations and public meetings in view of the rampaging novel coronavirus pandemic.

A meeting of prominent clerics chaired by Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, in its joint proclamation said that the world as a whole is facing the risk of coronavirus and stressed for restricting Friday prayers congregations to Arabic sermons.

The religious command also advises distance between the rows during prayers and urged for offering Fard Salah (compulsory prayers) at uncovered floor in mosques. “The floor should be washed with detergent or soap-water before offering prayers,” the Ulema said in its Fatwa.

The clerics have also advised patients and senior citizens to offer prayers at home instead of going to a mosque.

The washing and Wudhu (ablution) areas of a mosque should be thoroughly cleaned to minimize the risk of the virus infection, they said.

The religious scholars also requested philanthropists to donate soaps, sanitizers and other cleaning data-x-items to mosques as community service.
