Ceremony Held at Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine to Mourn Martyrdom of Imam Baqir (AS)

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A mourning ceremony was held at the holy mausoleum of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, northeast Iran, to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Baqir (AS).

 

The program, held on Monday evening, was addressed Hojat-ol-Islam Heidari Kashani, who highlighted the Seerah of the fifth Shia Imam and his scientific status.

It also included elegy recitations and recitation of Aminullah Supplication by Morteza Islaminejad.

Muhammad ibn ʿAli ibn al-Husayn ibn ʿAli ibn Abi Talib (b. 57/677 – d. 114/733) known as Imam al-Baqir (AS) and Baqir al-‘Ulum, was the fifth Shia Imam, whose period of Imamate lasted nineteen years.

Imam al-Baqir (AS) made a great scientific movement which reached its peak at the time of his son Imam al-Sadiq (AS).

During his imamate, a great step was taken towards organization of Shia thought in different fields including ethics, jurisprudence, theology, exegesis, etc. According to historical sources he was present at Battle of Karbala as a child.

The 7th day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajja (July 28 this year) marks the anniversary of Imam Baqir’s (AS) martyrdom.
