Children to Learn Basics of Islam in Bulgarian Mosques
In a scene that reflects the growing interest in educating new generations based on Islamic values, mosques’ Quranic schools across Bulgaria are preparing to welcome thousands of children by launching summer Quran courses, the Muslimsaroundtheworld website reported.
These courses, which have become an annual event over the years and combine Quranic education with the consolidation of Islamic principles and the development of moral character in young people, are all held within an educational system under the supervision of the Office of the Mufti of Bulgaria.
In this regard, Sheikh Ahmed Hasanov, the Grand Mufti of the Republic of Bulgaria, held a coordination meeting with the coordinators of the summer Quran courses in northern Bulgaria.
The meeting was held at the Ahmad Bek Mosque in Razgrad and was attended by Bahri Ezzat, an expert from the Guidance Department of the Grand Mufti’s Office, as well as representatives of the regional muftis of Razgrad, Shumen, Ruse, Silistra, Plovdiv, Varna, Vidin, Veliko Tarnovo and Targovishte.
The Grand Mufti opened the meeting by welcoming the participants and expressing his gratitude for the efforts of the coordinators in organizing and supervising the summer courses, emphasizing that these programs are a fundamental pillar in the process of religious education and upbringing of children and adolescents based on Islamic moral principles and values.
He said that education in Quranic courses is an investment in the future of the society. “Through them, children not only gain knowledge, but also grow up with virtues, respect for parents and love for religion.”

The meeting discussed the mechanisms for organizing the summer courses, exchanging experiences between regional muftis, reviewing best educational practices and exploring ways to develop educational programs, improve the quality of education, and increase coordination between different regions to ensure the success of the summer program and achieve its educational goals.
As part of these preparations, the Bulgarian Dar al-Ifta organized a similar meeting in Haskovo with the participation of summer course coordinators from southern Bulgaria, with the aim of unifying working mechanisms and coordinating efforts before the start of the courses throughout the country.
The summer Quran courses in the Quranic schools of Bulgarian mosques are the largest educational activity organized by the Dar al-Ifta in Bulgaria.
