TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran reading program is held in Karbala, Iraq, in Ramadan with the participation of members of police and security forces.

The Quranic Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas holy shrine organizes the Quranic event every day in the holy month.

According to Sheikh Jawad al-Nasrawi, an official with the center, a limited number of police forces and members of security organizations attend the program this year due to the coronavirus restrictions, al-Kafeel website reported.

He said their participation is aimed at promoting Quranic teachings and fostering peace.

The program, which starts at 5 PM local time every day is broadcast on the satellite TV channel of the Astan.

Ramadan, which will end next week, is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
