TEHRAN (IQNA) –  Palestinian Ambassador to Iran Salah al-Zawawi said the Palestinian people have never been more united than they are today.

In an interview with IQNA, Zawawi said the recent Israeli aggression has strengthened the unity of Palestinians.

He said nothing can lead to unity more than Jihad, adding that the Islamic Ummah as a whole is in constant Jihad (struggle) against attempts to eliminate the Muslim world.

The envoy described the recent confrontation with the Zionist enemy and the Palestinian resistance as a source of pride for the Palestinian people, saying they stood against the Israeli regime to defend sanctities on behalf of the Muslim world and Arab nations.

He said while the 12-day Israeli war against Palestine was an unbalanced confrontation in which more than 200 innocent civilians were killed in the Gaza Strip and tens in the West Bank, the Palestinian nation defeated the Zionist enemy.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza, which began on May 10, killed 253 Palestinians and wounded more than 1,900 others, before a ceasefire came into effect on May 21.

The aggression followed weeks of Israeli harassment of Palestinians in Jerusalem al-Quds and attempts to steal Palestinian lands in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of the city.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zawawi referred to the Oslo Accords and said they encouraged the Zionist enemy to continue its aggressions and expand its illegal settlement construction activities.

He warned that the Israeli regime does not seek to usurp the entire Palestine but also wants to dominate Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq and even Saudi Arabia.

The US and the Israeli regime want to eliminate Islamic resistance in the entire region, he added.

The Oslo Accords were signed between the Israeli regime and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) during the early-mid 1990s to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to guarantee the Palestinians’ right of self-determination.

The Palestinian Authority (PA), now led by President Mahmoud Abbas, has limited governance over the occupied West Bank. It was established following the Oslo Accords.
