Leader Condoles Death of Senior Cleric Ayatollah Shirazi

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei expressed condolences on the death of Ayatollah Seyed Razi Shirazi, a prominent cleric who died in Tehran on Wednesday.

In a message released on Thursday, the Leader prayed God to bestow His forgiveness and mercy on the departed soul and to raise his status.

The text of the message, according to Khamneeni.ir, is as follows:

“I offer my condolences on the demise of the noble scholar Ayatollah Haj Sayyid Razi Shirazi (may God's mercy be upon him). He was a descendent of the great vanguard of Islam and the Shia faith, the religious scholar who fought against colonialism in the 14th century AH (19th century AD), the great Mirza Shirazi. I offer my condolences to the Tehran Seminary, his students, admirers, the great Shirazi household and especially to his honorable family. I ask God to bestow His forgiveness and mercy on him and to raise his status.

Ayatollah Seyed Razi Shirazi was a Faqih (Islamic jurist), philosopher and theologian. He was the great-grandson of the renowned Shia source of emulation, Mirza Shirazi, the pioneer of the Tobacco protest.

Ayatollah Shirazi was the Imam of the Shifa Mosque in Yousefabad neighborhood of Tehran for over half a century.

He will be buried near the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq.
