TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Noble Quran has always been and will always remain a miracle, a senior Iranian cleric said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Kazem Sediqi

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 36th Quran and Etrat Festival of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Kazem Sediqi said that since its revelation, the Quran has challenged others to produce a Surah (chapter) like those in the Holy Book, but no one can.

He said only a fraction of the Quran’s miraculous aspects has been discovered and many other aspects remain secret.

The cleric said the Quran has made mention of issues related to things like embryology, movements of celestial bodies, and plants having been created in pairs, while these were unknown facts to mankind at the time of revelation.

The Holy Book is also a miracle in terms of prophecy, historic predictions, eloquence and cohesion, he stressed.

The interim Friday prayer leader of Tehran said the most important miracle of the Quran is its comprehensive teachings in the fields of monotheism, culture, education, politics, mysticism, and so on.

He referred to verse 2 of Surah al-Baqara “This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil),” and said the Quran is a book of guidance, a collection of moral virtues, and a book that shows the path to God and to becoming a perfect human being.

Elsewhere in the ceremony, winners of the 36th Quran and Etrat Festival of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology were announced and awarded.

The festival includes competitions in different categories like Quran memorization, recitation and concepts.

The scientific miracle of the Quran is a notion that shows the Quran is a miracle according to some Quranic statements with findings in empirical sciences. There are statements in the Quran concerning empirical facts which were not discovered at the time of its revelation. And since it was outside the ordinary human capacity to state such facts at that time, the Quran should be considered as a miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and as a book revealed by God.

Examples of the scientific miracle of the Quran include Quranic statements regarding the rotation and the orbit of the Earth, the origination of life from water, the Earth’s gravity, and the division of plants and animals into male and female.

In the last century, the scientific miracle of the Quran has been the focus of the attention of many Quranic scholars in the world. Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Iskandarani, Rashid Rida, and Tantawi have been the first scholars who propounded the notion.
