TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that war is not a solution to the crisis in Ukraine.

Speaking to IQNA on the sidelines of an event in Tehran, the spokesperson said that the current conflict is rooted in the excessive demands of the US-led NATO.

Iran has clearly announced its stance on the current conflict, he said, noting, “What we are observing is the result of three decades of provocative measures of the NATO, led by the US against Russia and against the region.”

“These threatening actions have political, military, economic, and cultural aspects and have unfortunately put the Eurasian region in a very dangerous situation.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on parties to act with self-restraint and invites them to settle the issue through political dialogue, he stressed, noting that Tehran monitors the developments very closely.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced the launch of an operation to eliminate what he called a serious threat to his country, citing the need to “denazify” Ukraine and accusing its Western-backed leadership of genocide against Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine.
