TEHRAN (IQNA) – Five Iranian institutions and bodies inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of Islamic human rights.

MoU Signed for Cooperation on Islamic Human Rights

The Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights, the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) World Assembly, World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), Al-Mustafa International University and Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) signed the MoU at a ceremony on Monday morning.

Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of the High Council, said at the ceremony that Islamic human rights is an important issue that has, unfortunately, been neglected in international arenas.

He added that although human rights issues were developed in international documents in the 20th century, the fact is that human rights is an issue that has roots in divine faiths, especially Islam.

Referring to the MoU, he said the capacities of the five bodies should be used to introduce to the world the teachings and accomplishments of Islam in the field of human rights.

Gharibabadi also noted that an encyclopedia of Islamic human rights is being compiled in Iran, saying that it can be translated into different languages so that whenever the subject of Islamic human rights is brought up everyone would know what it is about.

As for defending the rights of Muslims and the world oppressed, he regretted that it has been deliberately neglected in human rights mechanisms and one can see a discriminatory approach from international bodies in this regard.

In terms of defending Muslims’ rights, there is no international body except for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he noted.

Gharibabadi added that non-governmental mechanisms and grassroots organizations can also get active in this regard at the regional and international levels.
