Quranic Course on Tajweed Begins in Najaf

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A course on the rules and principles of Tajweed has begun in Najaf Governorate of Iraq.

The Quran Teaching Center affiliated to the Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) has launched the course, according to Al-Kafeel website.

It is held at Jamia Sayyed Ali al-Amidi Mosque in al-Hurriya district of Najaf.

A number of Quran reciters and those willing to enhance their Quranic skills have taken the course.

Sayyed Ahmed al-Zameli, an official with the center, said it organizes various Quranic courses throughout the year.

He said hundreds of individuals from different age groups have taken the courses

Zameli added that in the current course in Najaf, the participants learn the rules of correct recitation and pronunciation of Quranic words and the rules of Tajweed.

In the context of the recitation of the Quran, Tajweed is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
