TEHRAN (IQNA) – Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center in Stockholm has vehemently condemned the recent desecration of the Holy Quran by a far-right politician.

“During recent days, we have witnessed the repetition of the heinous and disgusting act of desecrating the Quran and burning this Holy Book in different Swedish cities,” said the center in a statement.

This “inhumane” measure is being repeated by few known individuals despite earlier warnings by the Muslim community in the country, it said, adding, “Provoking the feelings of Muslims and followers of Islam and mocking their holy book will not benefit any group or community and is contrary to the principle of mutual respect for beliefs.”

Desecrating a book that contains divine messages and is respected by some 2 billion people across the world is an inhumane act, stressed the center.

Calling on the Swedish police and government to prevent the occurrence of similar acts of aggression, the center also asked the Muslim community to avoid violence in their protests.

The Danish leader of the far-right Stram Kurs party burned a copy of the Holy Book in a heavily-populated Muslim area in Sweden.

Rasmus Paludan, accompanied by police, went to an open public space in southern Linkoping on Friday and placed the Muslim Holy Book down and burned it while ignoring protests from onlookers.

Protests against the heinous act turned violent after the police ignored the protestors’ earlier calls to stop the far-right rally.
