TEHRAN (IQNA) – Talking about the importance of Tasbih in Islam, a Muslim scholar pointed to a Quranic verse as well as narrations about Tasbih of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).

In a Quran interpretation session, Ayatollah Seyyed Jafar Seyyedan referred to some points about Surah Al-A'la and the topic of Tasbih. Tasbih is a form of dhikr that involves the glorification of Allah by saying “Subhan Allah”. Below is a summary of his speech.

“Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High, Who creates, then makes complete, and Who makes (things) according to a measure, then guides (them to their goal),” reads the first three verses of Surah Al-A'la.

The first part of the verse stresses the importance of glorifying Allah before reminding us of some of His characteristics. When the verse asks Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to glorify the name of God, it is actually glorification of God Himself. This is why the Prophet (PBUH) said “Glory be to my Great Sustainer, Most High, and I praise Him” after the revelation of this verse.

Tasbih means glorifying God Almighty and considering Him free from any defect. It means that features such as helplessness and ignorance can never be attributed to Him. The issue of Tasbih has been emphasized in various verses.

Another point is that many supplications and duas which are considered important are those who bear many glorifications and praises for Allah, such as Al-'Asharat Supplication.

In a special supplication, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) glorifies Allah by referring to some of His attributes such as immortality, guardianship, vigilance, ownership, and power among others.

In this dua, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) notes that Allah is the only One Who is eternal while everything else is mortal.
