TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Noble Quran is the book of life that guides mankind toward perfection and prosperity; hence it is expected that the Book provides answers to basic questions about life.

One of the most important questions for individuals has been the philosophy of creation. Humans have always sought to understand the purpose behind their creation and life.

Some verses of the Quran name testing as the purpose behind creation. “It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days and His Throne was upon the waters that He might try you, (and see) which of you excel in works.” (Surah Hud, verse 7)

Or in verse 2 of Surah Al-Mulk which reads: “who created death and life that He might examine which of you is best in deeds, and He is the Almighty, the Forgiving.”

These two verses name examination and testing as the goal of creation. God Almighty has also created blessings on earth for the purpose of trying mankind: “We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works.” (Surah Al-Kahf, verse 7)

This trying is sometimes conducted through calamities and sometimes through blessings. The act of God’s trying humans is a unique one compared to His relationship with other creatures.

These tests are part of man’s worshipping of God and a criterion for him to go through stages of servitude. Smaller tests make people ready for harder ones at higher stages.

These divine tests are a means for individuals to reach perfection.
