Awqaf Minister Mohammed Mukhtar Gomaa said that according to the plan approved on Monday, the Quranic programs will also be held in the cities of other governorates, including Alexandria, Giza, Damietta, and Kafr El-Shaikh.

Sheikh Abdul Fattah Taruti, Sheikh Mahmoud Hassan al-Khisht, Sheikh Fathi Abdul Munim al-Khalifa, Sheikh Yusuf Qassim Hilawa, and Sheikh Muhammad Ahmed Fathullah Ahmed are among the senior qaris set to recite the Quran at the programs.

Meanwhile, the Quranic circles will continue to be organized in a number of mosques in Cairo with the participation of eminent qaris like Sheikh Ahmed Ahmed Noaina, Sheikh Tamim Mahmoud Ahmed, Sheikh Hamad Numan Hussein, and Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Azib.

The Awqaf ministry says the Quranic events are part of efforts by the ministry to promote the Quran and teaching its recitation and emphasize the need for contemplating its teachings.

Last week, the ministry had announced a decision by the country’s president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to raise the cash awards given to qaris who recite the Quran in Quranic programs.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
