TEHRAN (IQNA) – A lot has been said about the hereafter and life after death and among the main beliefs about it is that of religious people, especially Muslims who believe everyone’s deeds will be assessed on the Day of Judgment and based on that assessment, he will go either to paradise or hell.

Surah At-Tur

At-Tur is the 52nd Surah of the Quran that has 49 verses and is in the 27th Juz. It is Makki and the 76th chapter revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

In the first verse, God swears by At-Tur (Mount Sinai), and hence the name of the Surah.

Mount Sinai is a holy place that is in Palestine. Prophet Moses (AS) talked to God and received the revelation in that mountain. The name At-Tur is mentioned ten time in the Quran.

According to Al-Mizan Exegesis of the Quran, the main theme of Surah At-Tur is warning those who show enmity to the truth. It cautions disbelievers about the divine punishment that awaits them on the Resurrection Day, stressing that the punishment is certain.

The Surah then elaborates on some features of the punishments and also on some of the blessings given to those who go to paradise, the ones who act kindly in this world and have faiths in God.

The content of the Surah can be divided into six parts:

The initial verses that begin with some swears refer to the issue of divine punishment, the fire of hell and signs of the Resurrection Day.

Another part highlights the divine blessings that await the pious in paradise.

It also talks about the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) prophethood and briefly responds to the accusations raised against him by enemies.

Another theme underlined in this chapter is the oneness of God and proving it with clear and compelling reasoning.

The Surah again refers to the Day of Judgment and describes some of its features.

In the final verses, the Surah gives some orders to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) regarding patience and steadfastness as well as glorifying and thanking God. It also pledges God’s support for the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
