TEHRAN (IQNA) – Scientists have not found a reason for a spilt that exists on the moon but some of them say it has been created hundreds of years ago. According to Surah Al-Qamar of the Holy Quran, it is a miracle of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Surah Al-Qamar

Al-Qamar is the 54th chapter of the Quran that has 55 verses and is in the 27th Juz. It is Makki and the 37th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Qamar, which means the moon, comes in the first verses and hence the name of the Surah.

It is a reminder of the Holy prophet’s (PBUH) miracle of splitting the moon. When the Mushrikin (polytheists) of Mecca asked for a miracle to prove his truthfulness, the Prophet (PBUH) split the moon by pointing his finger at it and then brought it back together. This miracle is known as Shaq al-Qamar (splitting of the moon).

The Mushrikin, however, refused to believe even after this miracle, accusing him of sorcery and lying.

Egyptian Geologist Dr. Zaghloul Annajar in a book published in 2004 has discussed the issue of the moon splitting. In this book, there is a photo based on which NASA scientists have argued the moon has been split in two halves long ago and there is strong proof for that on the surface of the moon.

The verses of Surah Al-Qamar are mostly warnings against wrongdoers. They talk about people who lived before and did evil. The verses warn that such people will be in a harsh position when their deeds are assessed on the Day of Judgment.

This is a reminder for people to learn a lesson. The peoples mentioned in this Surah are the people of Aad, Thamud, Lut and pharaoh.

The Surah emphasizes that the Quran has been made easy so that everyone can learn lessons from it. This is mentioned in verses 17, 22, 32 and 40 of the Surah.

“We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention?”

The Surah gives warnings to those who follow the whims of their Nafs (self) although they have been informed of the Resurrection Day and what will happen to them in this world and the next.

The Surah also recounts the stories of those who denied messengers of God and the punishments they received.
