TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mysticism has been sometimes misunderstood as pure seclusion with no attention to social realities; however, Islam is against such a view.

Some people have been drowned in what they believe is mysticism as they do not pay attention to the darkness in their society and the oppression against people. This is while they claim to be seeking divine light. This is against Islamic teachings. Is it even possible for a Muslim to turn a blind eye to oppression in society and the violation of the rights of others and then claim to be in pursuit of God’s light?

One of the messages of the Du’a al-Baha (also called Du’a al-Sahar) is that people should not forget to seek light in this world as well as the divine light. There is an emphasis on “entire” in this du’a which means both lights on earth and in the skies.

The light in this world is justice that will be established on the Day of Resurrection. The quest for achieving light and getting rid of darkness can be seen in all levels of one’s life. Verses of the Holy Quran guide people in this path step by step and tell them where to go to find light both here and in the next world.
