According to the Holy Quran, Hud (AS) was the divine messenger tasked with guiding the People of Aad and inviting them to the true path.
Where did the people of Aad live?
The Quran says in verses 50-52 of Surah Hud:
“To Aad (We sent) their brother Hud. He said: ‘My people, worship God; you have no god except He. You are only forgers. My people, I do not ask any reward for what I have preached to you. No one can give me my reward except my Creator. Will you then not take heed? My people, seek forgiveness from your Lord and turn to Him in repentance. He will send you abundant rain from the sky and will increase your power. Do not sinfully turn away from Him.’”
The name of Hud is mentioned ten times in the Quran and there is a Surah (chapter) named after him in the Holy Book.
Hud (AS) was one of the descendants of Noah (AS). On his deathbed, Prophet Noah (AS) said that after his death, the oppressors will rule and do injustice to the people until Hud rises up and saves the people.
He said Hud (AS) is pious and patient and is similar to him (Noah) in appearance and deeds.
He also noted that God will destroy Hud’s enemies with a severe storm.
The people of Aad, to whom Hud (AS) was sent, lived in Ahqaf region, north of Hadhramaut in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula (today’s Yemen).
To the north of Ahqaf lies the Rub al-Khali region and to its east lies Oman.
