IQNA – The Daesh terrorist group said it was behind a minibus bombing that killed at least two civilians and wounded 14 others in a predominantly Shia Muslim district of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Saturday.

It was the first such attack in the country this year.

Daesh, also known as ISIL, claimed that 20 people died in the blast, according to a statement on its affiliated Telegram channel.

Khalid Zadran, a police spokesman, said the explosion occurred in the Dashti Barchi area in the western part of the city, and that an investigation was underway.

The group has repeatedly targeted Shia schools, hospitals and mosques in the same neighborhood, where many members of the Hazara ethnic minority live.

In November, the group claimed responsibility for a similar minibus bombing that killed seven people and injured 20 others in Dashti Barchi.

In October, four people died and seven were wounded when a bomb exploded at a sports club in the same area. The terror cult also said it carried out that attack.

Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban's defense minister, claimed last week that Daesh’s attacks had decreased by 90 percent in the past year.

There has been a rise in terrorist attacks, especially those targeting Shia Muslims in Afghanistan and Iran. Last week, a twin terrorist bombing in Kerman, south of Iran, claimed lives of at least 91 civilians who had taken part in a ceremony to honor anti-terror commander General Qassem Soleimani who was assassinated four years earlier in a US drone attack.
