IQNA – The Quran’s light illuminates the souls that are open and receptive. Ramadan, a month of purification, readies individuals to embrace this divine light.

The Holy Quran, being a source of light, can only illuminate a soul that is prepared to accept it. Just as a crystal vessel can absorb light into its core and radiate it through all its facets, the Quran’s light is meant to penetrate the human heart, reaching every corner of one’s being, crystallizing their existence, and allowing them to benefit from the Quran’s light.

The Holy Quran explains that the Day of Judgment is denied only by sinners: “None belies it except every guilty sinner” (Surah Al-Mutaffifin, verse 12). It further states that the verses of the Quran are considered myths only by those whose hearts bear the imprint of their persistent sins: “No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts” (Surah Al-Mutaffifin, verse 14).

Therefore, there needs to be a process to cleanse these impurities and polish the soul. Ramadan serves this purpose. It polishes the human soul, removes the rust of sin that has settled on the heart, and prepares it to receive the light.

The Holy Quran shines only on those who are ready and willing. It considers its guidance to be specifically for the pious: “this book is a guide for the pious” (Surah Baqarah, verse 2). It also considers its verses to be a source of healing for the hearts of believers, while increasing the loss of wrongdoers: “We reveal the Quran which is a cure and mercy for the believers but does nothing for the unjust except to lead them to perdition” (Surah Al-Isra', verse 82)

Thus, Ramadan is a month of purification. If God declared that the Quran was revealed in the holy month of Ramadan, it is because Ramadan prepares the soul, talent, and ability of people to accept the Quran’s light. In other words, the purity achieved through fasting lays the groundwork for understanding the concepts and teachings of the Quran.
