IQNA – An Iranian professor says hundreds of distinct conceptual units are in the Holy Quran and that artificial intelligence can help better understand them and their relations.

"Upon examining the Quran, considering their contexts and thematic elements, we arrive at the conclusion that the Holy Quran can be categorized into 555 conceptual units—sometimes more, sometimes fewer," Ali Asghar Pourezzat, head of the University of Tehran's Faculty of Governance, told IQNA on Thursday.

Within this division, each conceptual unit holds a precise meaning related to a specific subject, he added.

"When we analyze these conceptual units individually, we can derive rulings or infer conclusions about specific aspects of an addressed phenomena," he said.

"However, by viewing all 555 conceptual units of the Holy Quran as interconnected concepts, we gain more nuanced insights into various dimensions of phenomena; for instance, we can explore the multifaceted aspects of usury and its societal impact, or delve into the complexities of divorce and how it affects different parties, from children to fathers and mothers," Pourezzat noted.

This approach allows researchers to repeatedly draw inferences and refine our understanding, he said.

"The capacity of artificial intelligence to combine and validate these interpretations is crucial—it enables us to explore the Quranic wisdom from diverse angles when faced with new phenomena," he highlighted.

He noted that this is a project that he and one of his colleagues started some eight years ago, hoping that it would be completed soon with the collaboration of Quranic scholars.
