Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hossein Mokhtari urged international affairs experts to organize scholarly forums in academic and research centers in the world to introduce Ghadir, its various dimensions and the philosophy behind appointing Imam Ali (AS) as the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) successor.
The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, which fell on Tuesday, June 25, this year, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year.
It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijjah in the lunar Hijri calendar.
It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.
In his interview with IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Mokhtari said the Holy Prophet (PBUH) brought the message of Imamate, Wilayat and Islamic unity on the day of Ghadir.
Referring to Verse 67 of Surah Al-Ma’idah “O Messenger, deliver what is sent down to you from your Lord; if you do not, you will not have conveyed His Message. Allah protects you from the people. Allah does not guide the nation, the unbelievers”, he described Ghadir as the essence and outcome of creation, the synopsis of all divine religions, and the summary of the school of Wahy (revelation).

He said the tradition of appointing a successor in Judaism and Christianity is similar to that in Islam, which means it is a divine Sunnah (rule).
The cleric further said the Event of Ghadir is among the main events in the history of Islam.
It was the origin of many events, cultures, ideas, thoughts and inclination and over the past 14 centuries, numerous scholars, researchers and thinkers have studied this major event, he stated.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mokhtari said the Event of Ghadir created a new horizon for Islam, adding that without it, Islam would not have been completed and introduced as an everlasting religion.

He also said Ghadir is the symbol of Shia thought and what defines Shia identity and it is a responsibility of Shia Muslims to reflect on the lofty teachings of the Sermon of Ghadir.
