IQNA – The World Quran Convention 2025 opened in Kuala Lumpur Sunday with a strong appeal for Muslim leaders and communities to turn Quranic values into concrete social and economic strategies, emphasizing the Holy Book’s role as a practical guide for modern policymaking and problem-solving.

In his keynote address at the event, Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari said the teachings of the Quran not only shape individual faith but also serve as a practical blueprint for policymaking, economic planning, and strategic action to address contemporary challenges.

"The Quran is not a text to be admired from afar, but a living source of guidance shaping our economies, institutions and the future of our societies," he said.

Amirudin shared that certain Quranic verses have guided his approach to leadership, allowing him to focus on patience, integrity and shared responsibility, while some verses highlight disciplined action, teamwork and aligning initiatives with ethical and moral principles.

“At its core, it is a moral framework that protects the vulnerable, promotes fair wealth distribution, rejects exploitation and upholds dignity, transparency and accountability,” he said, adding that no one should be left behind because of poverty or marginalization.

Amirudin also cited Selangor as an example of putting these principles into practice, where the state has rolled out programs to empower small entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, improve access to financing and provide training and support to help families achieve sustainable livelihoods.

"Among the many efforts we have pursued, halal governance stands out as one of the most visible examples of how Quranic values can be translated into policy and system.

“For more than half a century, Selangor has worked to institutionalize halal supervision, treating it as a shared amanah (responsibility) between government, industry, and community,” he said, adding that Selangor is now home to one of the most active halal ecosystems in Malaysia.
