The FBI on Monday released photos of a man officials said was believed to have spray-painted part of the mosque five months ago.
The vandalism happened around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Baitus Samee Mosque, 1333 Spears Road. The agency said the man walked into the mosque compound and "sprayed an offensive phrase in black graffiti" in Urdu, the primary language of Pakistan.
Before he vandalized the mosque, the man was seen parking a damaged silver Honda Accord at a gas station near the mosque, according to the press release.
The two photos released by the agency show a man wearing dark pants, a plaid, long-sleeved shirt and red beanie. The man appears to have a beard. Two pictures of the sedan show it had damage behind the rear wheel on its passenger side.
