Brunei Nat’l Quran Contest for Youth: Preliminary Round Concludes

IQNA – The qualifying round of Brunei’s National Quran Reading Competition for Youth was held in the Southeast Asian country from May 14 to 16.

A total of 93 youth, comprising 66 qari and 27 qariah, participated in this year’s qualifying round.

Some 30 of them were selected to advance to the semi-finals.

The participants also attended a two-day Program Kemahiran Al-Quran (KIA) focusing on instilling knowledge on Al-Quran recitation, such as emphasizing various aspects and skills related to melody, voice, fasahah (eloquence) and Tajweed, needed to compete in the competition.

Out of the 93 participants, the top 30 youth who scored higher than 80 per cent qualified to compete in the semi-finals on May 25.

The top five youth from this year’s qualifying round are selected to advance to the finals alongside qari and qariah (male and female reciters) winners from last year’s competition on June 19.

The competition is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as an annual event to nurture and develop the young qari and qariah capable of competing on national and international level in the recitation of the Quran.
