The contest has been organized under the supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Abdulhamid Mutawalli, head of the International Islamic Center for Tolerance and Peace in Brazil and Latin America, highlighted the importance of the Quran for Brazilian Muslim families.
He said that one of the greatest blessings that God Almighty has bestowed on Muslims in countries like Brazil is that their homes are filled with the blessing of reciting and memorizing the Quran.
“In Brazil, where ethnicities and cultures are diverse and identities are melting into the larger society, we see Muslim families making great efforts to maintain their children’s connection to the Holy Quran. The Quran is the strongest link to their identity, language and religion.”
He added, “Through my work in the field of propagation and service to the Muslim community in Brazil, I have witnessed how mothers and fathers are eager to make the Quran an integral part of their children’s daily lives. From an early age, children begin to listen to recitations at home, even if they do not understand all the words, so that their hearts become familiar with the melody of the Quran before learning its letters. Then they grow up and attend memorization sessions in mosques and Islamic centers, which, thank God, have become popular in several cities, led by scholars and skilled reciters.”
He explained that one of the remarkable phenomena in this country is that the ears of the new generation, by the grace of God, have been attracted to the beauty of the voices of Egyptian qaris who have gifted the world with the fragrance of beautiful Quran recitation.
“You often see children and youth here imitating the voices of Egyptian qaris such as Sheikh Muhammad Rifaat, Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, and Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, may God have mercy on them all. It is as if these reciters have become a new school of thought, inspiring young people in the West, just as they inspired generations in the East.”
Mutawalli continued, “Some families even make sure their children listen to recordings of old recitations before bed so that they have a clear mind for the Quran and understand Tajweed and recitation before starting theoretical lessons. This is undoubtedly reflected in the way our children recite in mosques, where they experience the sweetness of the maqam, the purity of tone, and the humility, even though their surroundings are far from the Arabic language and styles of Quranic recitation.”

He emphasized that this blessed concern from Muslim families in Brazil and the increase in the number of Quran recitation circles.
“We are witnessing, children competing in memorizing the Quran, and their attachment to great reciters and imitating their voices, which show a clear message that the Holy Quran is a fortress that protects the identity of Muslims wherever they are, and by the grace of God, it will remain a beacon of guidance and light, and despite the challenges, it will be passed down from generation to generation.”
