The Quranic educational program for students was implemented by the Zalmati El Hajj Educational Foundation in the Sidi Boubaker district of Algeria’s Saida province this week, Al-Masaa reported.
This program took place in the form of a one-day class entitled “Quranic Education and Its Role in Preserving National Identity” with the presence of Quran teachers and congregational imams.
It explained the position of Quranic education in the past and present of Algeria.
Kodad Ali, director of the Zalmati El Hajj Educational Foundation, said that the importance of Quranic education in strengthening the unity and solidarity of the Algerian nation during the French colonial period and after independence was emphasized in this meeting.
He added, “Quranic schools play an important role in preserving the national identity of Algeria, and the teachers and sheikhs of these schools implement valuable programs in this regard.”
He said Quranic schools located in mosques continue to serve as a platform for learning knowledge, piety, ijtihad, and civilized behavior, and each year a significant number of Quranic memorizers graduate from these schools, some of whom continue their education in universities.

The interest in studying in these schools is not limited to young people but also includes adults who pursue education at an advanced age out of love for the Quran and with an effort to preserve it, Kodad added.
Makki Ben Othman, an Algerian sheikh and scholar attending the meeting, also stated that during the country’s liberation revolution, the Quran was a key factor in preserving the national identity, and emphasized the need to teach the Quran to different generations so that it can be a beacon for the future, especially in strengthening identity, language, and national belonging.
