IQNA – The Mus’haf of Najaf is the fruit of years of meticulous scholarly effort and coherent teamwork the custodian of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Sayid Ahmad al-Safi

Hojat-ol-Islam Sayid Ahmad al-Safi made the remark at a ceremony held in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on Wednesday to unveil the Mus’haf of Najaf.

“This project is a new stage in the Quranic services of the Najaf Seminary to the Islamic world,” he said.

He referred to the scientific background of Najaf Ashraf and said that for hundreds of years, the Najaf Seminary, with all its scientific branches from jurisprudence and principles to interpretation, language, literature and other sciences, has played a great role in preserving knowledge and theorizing and safeguarding the foundations of Islam, and one of the most important areas of its attention has been the concern for the Holy Quran, as the legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) among the Ummah.

“A study of history shows that scholars and researchers have left behind numerous works in Quranic sciences, to the extent that some contemporary researchers have counted more than three thousand manuscripts related to the Holy Quran,” he stated.

Explaining the process of the formation of the Mus’haf of Najaf, he said more than 17 years ago, the idea of writing a new Mu’haf was raised and after being presented to the Supreme Authority of Najaf, it was approved as a blessed work, but some circumstances delayed its implementation.

“Until about five years ago, fortunately, one of the prominent calligraphers, Master Abdul Hussein Rakabi, took over the writing of this Quran and dedicated nearly five years of his life to writing the manuscript.”

He noted that after the writing was completed, specialized committees were formed to review the handwriting and supervision of illumination and decoration.

“These committees, by transferring their offices to the Dar al-Kafeel printing house, carefully examined the Quran page by page and sheet by sheet; in such a way that some pages were revised between 7 and 10 times so that the text of the Quran could be published with the utmost accuracy and certainty.”

Emphasizing that “such works are not the result of the efforts of one person and require coordinated teamwork,” Hojat-ol-Islam Safi thanked all members of the scientific, technical, and artistic groups, and especially praised Hojat-ol-Islam Sheikh Abdulreza Hindi, Sayid al-Bukka, Sayid Jawad Gharifi, and other members of the technical team.
