Friday Prayers to Resume in Tehran Next Week
In a statement on Tuesday, the council noted that Tehran has been categorized as a “yellow zone” (area with medium risk of coronavirus infection).
It added that all cities and towns in yellow zones, including Tehran, will start organizing Friday prayers as of June 27.
The statement stressed that holding the religious-political event will require ensuring that all health protocols can be maintained.
In mid-March, Iran closed mosques and other religious sites and suspended mass prayers, including Friday prayers, due to the concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.
It has infected more than 8.1 million and killed nearly 440,000 people globally.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country was 9,065 and the total number of confirmed cases 192,439 as of Tuesday.
More than 152,000 patients in Iran have recovered from the disease so far.
