Future of Yemen Belongs to Yemeni People: Iranian Adviser
Addressing a gathering held in Tehran on Tuesday night to voice support for the Yemeni people, he said no foreign country should interfere in Yemen’s internal affairs.
The gathering was organized by the Cultural, Education Committee of Iran’s Arbaeen Headquarters in cooperation with the Arbaeen International Foundation.
Amir Abdollahian further lauded the resistance of the Yemeni people under the Saudi-led coalition’s siege and daily airstrikes, saying the Saudi regime, the US and Britain are testing the most dangerous bombs and weapons in the impoverished country against its innocent people.
He highlighted the decisive role of the axis of resistance in the region, including in Yemen, Palestine, Iraq and Syria, stressing that the regional countries will soon acknowledge the part the axis has played in stabilizing and institutionalizing peace and security in the region.
Another speaker at the event was Masoud Shajareh, the chairman of the London -based Islamic Human Rights Commission, who said the crimes being committed against the people of Yemen have created the biggest crisis facing the world community today.
He said 24 million people in Yemen, namely 80 percent of the entire population, are struggling to get the very basic needs to survive such as food and water due to the ongoing Saudi-led aggression.
Saudi Arabia is committing crimes with the help of the US, UAE, and European countries as well as the Zionist regime of Israel, he deplored.
Shajareh highlighted the plight of Yemeni women and children amid the coronavirus pandemic and said the Saudi-led blockade of the country has impeded the import of food and medicine.
At least 17,000 innocent civilians have been killed as a result of the aggression, he said, decrying the world silence on the ongoing tragedy.
The IHRC chief added that people should not judge Saudi Arabia by the copies of the Quran it distributes around the world but by what it is doing in Yemen.
It is the duty of every Muslim to stand up for the oppressed people of Yemen and hold accountable those behind the crimes in Yemen, he went on to say.
Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing the Ansarullah movement.
In the relentless campaign, Saudi-led airstrikes have hit schools, hospitals and wedding parties and killed thousands of Yemeni civilians.
The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
The kingdom’s heinous crimes were enjoying the support of the United States and the United Kingdom.
