According to Al-Alam news network, 42000 foreign pilgrims were among the million-strong crowd that gathered in Karbala to mourn the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions.
These pilgrims came from countries like Iran, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, China and Britain.
The devotees of Imam Hussein (AS) gathered in Karbala despite all the security threats from inside and outside Iraq.
Ahmed Al-Hasnawi, director of the public relations office of Karbala police department, said followers of other faiths including Christians and Saebis also attended the Ashura mourning ceremonies in the city.
Shias all around the world held ceremonies on the day of Ashura mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
