“Iraqi Shiism in Iran-Ottoman Political Relations” Scientific Forum Planned

A scientific forum on “Iraqi Shiism in Iran-Ottoman Political Relations in the 19th century” will be held by Hawza and University Research Center in the holy city of Qom.


The program will be organized in cooperation with the Association of History Researchers and the Research Center of Haj Organization on November 21.



The History of Islam Department of the Research Center announced that the forum aims to investigate Shiism in Iraq in the 19th century and the status of Iranians residing in the holy cities of Iraq in the rations between Iran and Ottoman Empire based on the documents available at the Ottoman Archive.



Development of Shiism in Iraq in the 19th century, the Shiism in view and policy of the Ottoman Empire, Iranian citizens in the holy sites of Iraq and Shia-Sunni differences in the country as well as the viewpoint of the governments in the two countries in this respect will be the main themes of the program.



The specialized forum will be addressed by Rasul Arabkhani, member of the scientific board of Payam-e Noor University and Seyyed Ali Mujani, researcher and expert of the history of foreign relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.



The role of Iranian government in development of Shiism in Iraq, how the Ottoman government treated scholars residing in Iraq and the status of the holy cities of Iraq in the Pan-Islamism policy of Abdul-Hamid II will also be among the issues to be investigated at the forum.



Hojat-ol-Islam Ramezan Mohammadi, member of the scientific board and head of the History of Islam Department of Hawza and University Research Center, will be the secretary of the program.



The Conference of the Scientific Forums of Qom Seminary School will host the program from 3 to 5 p.m. local time.
