Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising was for God and on the path of God and, therefore, this uprising has a Divine origin and will remain perpetual.

This is according to Iraqi-born British Quran scholar Ali Ramadhan Al-Awsi who, in an interview with IQNA, stressed that the Divine nature of Imam Hussein (AS) uprising is the reason for its immortality.

He said the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) taught a large number of human concepts including patience, courage, standing against oppression and injustice and rising up against corruption.

“These concepts are human values that anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim approves of. These human concepts form one of the reasons why Imam Hussein (AS) uprising remains perpetual.”

Al-Awsi described the tragic events the family of Imam Hussein (AS) went through during the Ashura event as unprecedented, saying that because of Yazid’s brutality and his hostility with Imam Hussein (AS), the rights of the women, children and noble human beings were trampled upon.

“This was another aspect of the uprising that helped it remain immortal. This was the victory of blood over the sword.”

The professor of the World University of Islamic Sciences in London said Yazid’s usurpation of the Islamic Caliphdom was a declaration of war and that Yazid wanted the Imam (AS) to choose between fighting or dishonor.

“But Imam does not accept dishonor and chooses resistance and fighting because according to verse 8 of Surah Al-Munafiqun (And to Allah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers), the believers should not accept dishonor.”

Al-Awsi noted that today the lesson one should learn from the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) is refusing to succumb to oppression and standing up against anyone who wants to trample on our rights.

“We must not allow the world arrogance or its cronies and allies in the region to do whatever they want to us,” he underscored.

“If the world arrogance wants to enter war with Muslims and crush the magnificence and grandeur of Islam, we must stand up against it with whatever means we have and walk on this path inspired by the revolution and school of Imam Hussein (AS).”

He stressed that the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) does not get old with the passage of time but remains inspiring as it has remained so far after so many centuries.

Al-Awsi urged that attention must be paid to the teachings of Ashura in today’s world, especially in terms of morality, standing against injustice, and resisting the enemies.

He went on to say that Muslims should learn about the objectives of the Ashura uprising and the great character of Imam Hussein (AS) in order to promote the values and teachings of this great uprising and establish an Islamic civilization accordingly.
