Halal Reindeer Meat to Hit Muslim Markets

Muslims around the world can enjoy Reindeer meat as an abattoir in Norway has started slaughtering Reindeer according to halal meat standards.

Harry Dyrstad, who owns the Vilteksperten abattoir, has employed a certified halal butcher to slaughter 100 Reindeer and distribute them as far as places like Dubai.

The Islamic Council of Norway granted their approval after visiting the abattoir, which will begin by giving Muslims in Norway the opportunity to eat Reindeer ham, which is very popular in Norway.

“It is going to be exciting to see how Muslims receive the novelty of Reindeer. This is a completely new halal product that Muslims have not had access till before,” said Mehtab Afsar, General Secretary of the Islamic Council of Norway.

Reindeer meat often comes from ethnic Sami people who live in northern Scandinavia and have been farming Reindeer for centuries as their main livelihood.
