Speaking to Al-Safir daily on Tuesday, December 10 , Nabih Berri said resistance is a way for sacrificing oneself for the sake of the country.
He said those who are unhappy with the resistance movement’s having weapons should think again.
“If the resistance movement did not exist, we would create it for defending our country against the Zionist regime’s threats,” he added.
Berri underlined that members of the resistance movement who have made sacrifices for the sake of defending the country will not accept disarmament.
The Lebanese parliament speaker also stressed that the resistance movement has been recognized in the Taif Agreement as it clearly states that Lebanon has the right to liberate the occupied lands of southern Lebanon.
The Taif Agreement or National Reconciliation Accord was signed in Taif, Saudi Arabia, in 1982 to end the decades-long Lebanese civil war.
According to the agreement, the resistance movement has the right to use weapons to defend Lebanon.
