A number of Iran’s prominent Quranic figures, including Shahriar Parhizgar, Seyed Mohsen Mousavi Baldeh, Ahmad Abolqassemi, Hamed Shakernejad, Seyed Mohammad Bagher Tabataba’inejad, Mohammad Javad Panahi and other Quranic scholars and reciters were present at the program, which was organized in the city’s Martyrs’ Square.

The Martyrs’ Square took on a different atmosphere on Monday evening. Hours before the start of the event on the occasion of the 40th day after the burial of the martyred Leader, the crowd had been quietly gathering in the square, and this urban area was transformed into the scene of a Quranic, ritual and epic gathering; a gathering in which the recitation of the Quran, singing, eulogizing, reminiscing and the unison of the people were supposed to record a different night in the memory of those present.

The program was titled “Arbaeen Gathering of the Most Quranic Leader in the Islamic World and Commemoration of the Karamat Mosque,” and from the very beginning, it tried to establish a vivid and tangible connection between the various aspects of the martyred Leader’s personality, from his deep connection with the Quran to his historical role in the Karamat Mosque and his continuous support of the Quranic community.

The ceremony began with the playing of a music video by Mohammad Hossein Pouyanfar, followed by the performance of the song “Bayad Barkhast” by Mohsen Mohammadipanah, which affected the atmosphere of the square. After that, the music video “Salam Karbala” by Hossein Sotoudeh was played, leading the atmosphere of the ceremony to an even more epic and spiritual atmosphere.

The slogan “Allahu Akbar” resounded in the Martyrs’ Square; a slogan that the attendees chanted in support of the Resistance Front, and then the “Firouzeh Razavi” girls’ choir came on stage wearing sky-blue veils and performed a piece in honor of the martyred Leader.

At the end of this performance, the atmosphere of the square once again took on an epic hue, and the people shouted in unison: “Our word is one word: revenge (for the blood of the martyred Leader”.

At the same time, Iranian flags and Ya Litharat al-Hussain (AS) flags were circulating among the crowd, and this combination of flags, slogans, and the large presence of people created a passionate image of a community in the Martyrs’ Square.

In another part of the ceremony, Seyed Javad Sadat Fatemi narrated the role of the Karamat Mosque in the Quranic and revolutionary developments of Mashhad, starting in the 1970s.

Then, a video of the martyred Leader reciting verses from the Holy Quran’s Surah Al-Adiyat was played, and the reciters present also recited the verses along with the video.

This part of the program symbolically linked the martyred Leader's recitation with the voices of the reciters and the people, and showed that is relationship with the Quran is still alive in the collective memory of the Quranic community.

Another part of the ceremony was a speech of Shahryar Parhizkar, who said, “We should not be satisfied with just expressing emotions and commemorating, because the true glorification of the martyred Leader becomes meaningful when his Quranic demands are followed up in practice. The demand for (training) 10 million Quran memorizers is a demand that was raised years ago, and if the Quranic community and the people do not take steps towards its realization, verbal and emotional devotion will not be enough.”
