Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General said the group’s presence in Syria is aimed at defending the resistance agenda.

Speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate a number of Hezbollah martyrs, Sheikh Naeem Qassem predicted that the Syrian crisis will take long to resolve, Al-Quds Al-Arabi daily reported.

He said the objective behind what is going on in Syria is to deal a blow to the resistance movement and change the equation in the region in favor of the Zionist regime.

Sheikh Naeem Qassem further said there are two opposition groups in Syria, the moderates and the extremists, adding that the moderates are being overwhelmed by the extremists.

He said the extremist Takfiris who oppose Bashar Al-Assad’s government are an obstacle to the resolution of the Syrian crisis.

The Hezbollah official warned those countries that support armed opposition groups in Syria that whatever change happens in Syria, it will not be in their interest.

Syria has been the scene of unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have lost their lives in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says foreign-backed terrorists are responsible for the killings, and that certain Western states, especially the United States, and their regional allies are fueling the turmoil.
